In short
- V-Range needs an account. You sign in with Apple or Google.
- Your training journal with photos, targets, notes and training days stays on your device only. We have no access to it.
- Your photos are analysed on your device. They are not sent to us or anyone else.
- In groups and duels, other members see your name and the results you share. V-Range never shares photos or notes.
- V-Range shows no ads and contains no analytics or tracking tools.
Account and sign-in
You sign in with your Apple or Google account. From Apple we receive an identifier and your email address (or, if you choose, an anonymous relay address from Apple), plus your name if you share it. From Google we receive an identifier, your email address, your name and the link to your profile picture. Our sign-in service stores these details with your account. V-Range does not display them.
When you set up the app, you choose a name yourself. This is the only name members of your groups and duels see. You can change it in your profile at any time.
To keep you signed in, V-Range stores a sign-in key in your device's protected storage. The app deletes it when you sign out.
We process this data to provide V-Range with groups and duels (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). You cannot use V-Range without an account.
Technical data when the app contacts our server
Whenever V-Range contacts our server, for example when you sign in or use groups and duels, technical data is processed: your IP address, the time and type of the request, and the app and device details sent with it. We use this data to run the service securely, find errors and detect abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). These logs are deleted after seven days at the latest.
Your training journal
Everything you record in your journal is stored on your device only: target photos, hits and scores including your corrections, notes and tags, training days with date, place, duration and notes, your equipment, your target types and your settings. We have no access to it, and there is no sync through our server. What you share in groups and duels is described in that section.
V-Range keeps photos unchanged. If an image file contains further details, such as the place where it was taken, they remain in the file. V-Range only reads the capture time.
The data stays on your device until you delete it in the app or remove the app. This also applies after you sign out or delete your account. Depending on your device settings, it may be included in your device backup (for example iCloud or Google), which the respective provider manages under its own terms.
You can export your journal, single targets and training days as files and pass them on through your device's share menu. Exports contain your photos. Where they go is up to you.
Camera, photos and analysis
V-Range uses the camera when you photograph a target and your photo library when you import a photo. You can withdraw either permission at any time in your device settings. Detecting the bullet holes and calculating the rings happens on your device. Your photos do not leave your device for this, and we do not use them to train models. V-Range does not use your location, microphone or contacts.
Groups and duels
Groups and duels run through our server. There we store your profile with the name you chose, your memberships, invitations and challenges, and the results you share. A shared result contains the date, discipline, distance, calibre, shooting position, number of shots, score and group size. For a reviewed photo target it also contains the hit positions: where each hit lies on the target, as coordinates, without the photo. From them the app shows members the hit pattern, heat map and group size. Photos, notes, tags and the names of your firearms never reach the server.
Results only reach the server when you share them. In a duel, you pick the series you want to submit. For each group you can switch on automatic sharing. It is off by default and only covers results from the moment you switch it on.
Members of your groups and duels see your name, your shared results with their hit patterns and, in duels, your team. You send invitation links yourself, for example through a messenger.
You can withdraw shared results. If you switch automatic sharing off or leave a group, we delete your results in that group. If you delete a target from your journal, we remove its result from your groups. Once a duel has ended, its results stay until the duel is deleted or you delete your account.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
Keeping the community safe
To keep groups and duels fair and respectful, we also process the following data (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR):
- Our server automatically checks names and texts that others see against a list of prohibited terms.
- If you report a member or a group, we store who reported whom, the reason, the name of the reported person or group and, for false results, the shared results concerned. Only the V-Range team sees reports. We delete them six months after they have been handled.
- If you block someone, we store this until you unblock them or delete your account. The person is not notified.
- If someone is removed from a group, we store this so they cannot rejoin through the invitation link.
- If someone breaks the community rules, we can suspend their account. We then keep the account's identifier and email address for as long as the suspension lasts.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in your profile under "Delete account". We then immediately delete your profile, your memberships, your duels and every result you shared. Groups that still have other members pass to the longest-standing member. Reports are kept until their deadline without any link to your account, and server logs until they are deleted after seven days at the latest. Your journal stays on your device until you remove the app.
Recipients
Supabase Inc. runs sign-in and the database for us on servers in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Supabase processes the data only on our behalf and according to our instructions (Art. 28 GDPR). The European Commission's standard contractual clauses cover any access from outside the EU, for example by Supabase support.
Apple and Google process sign-in with your Apple or Google account as independent controllers under their own privacy policies.
There are no other recipients. We do not sell data or pass it on for advertising.
Purchases
If you pay for V-Range, the payment runs through Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), who act as independent controllers. We do not receive payment details. From Apple and Google we only receive aggregated statistics, such as downloads and purchases, from which we cannot identify you. If you have allowed your device to share diagnostics with app developers, Apple or Google also provide us with crash reports that are not linked to you.
If you contact us
If you email us, we process your email address and the content of your message to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). We delete the message once the matter is settled, unless a legal retention period applies.
Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability (Art. 15 to 20 GDPR). You can do much of this directly in the app: change your name, withdraw results, leave groups, export your journal, delete your account. For anything else, email us at info@tuariai.com.
Where we process data on the basis of legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), you can object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR).
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).
Changes
If a later version of V-Range processes additional data, we will update this policy beforehand. The current version is always available at this address.
